6PR Perth: Regional shows make great roadtrips

As we find ourselves feeling the warmth of Spring and looking up at bright blue skies, it’s time to think of getting out for a regional roadtrip.

I love going to Narrogin each year for the Narrogin Agricultural Show, full of exhibitions and stalls, animals and of course sideshow alley.

Through October and November is a great time to find out where a regional show is being held in a town you love or have never been to.

On TV on The Couch: Sports Tourism

Talking with Fred on The Couch about sports tourism was fascinating to explore the global size and rise of sports tourism and consider how often people travel for sport, where to see a favourite sport or tour an iconic ground.

As published in Just Urbane, victory rolls in a Spitfire will make you weep and whoop

Every time I write about my aviation experiences I am drawn very emotionally to the poem, High Flight, by a young Canadian RAF Spitfire pilot, John Magee. The lines he wrote fill your heart and soul when you’re in a jet, glider, skydive, hot air balloon and particularly in a Spitfire, roaring through the blue skies above Kent in England.

I’m fortunate to have variations of this story published by Have a Go News newspaper and by Airline Ratings and Australian Aviation. Being published by Just Urbane is always exciting but this story means so much to me and I really hope it drives readers to embark on an action packed adventure of their own that is exciting and emotionally charged as well.

As published in Just Urbane, the E&O is almost too much luxury, almost.

Just Urbane is one of my favourite magazines to work with. My experience with E&O Penang is just what they’re looking in a luxury experience with a good measure of heritage thrown in as well. I hope you enjoy reading my story about E&O Penang.

6PR with Burgo: The view from the top

With Burgo on 6PR we discussed the attraction of the view from the top. I think as travellers we like the view from the top because it makes us feel like we’ve conquered where we are. We look out at the view around us and can say, “I’m here!”

Some of our favourite overseas views are the iconic, like the Eiffel Tower, and we also have lots of opportunities to get a better view here in Australia, from the lighthouses of Rottnest and fire lookout trees in the South West to snow capped mountains of Tasmania and a big bridge in Sydney there’s lot of ways to see a bit further on your travels. Enjoy listening to the show in the audio file below:

Hotel Stripes: As published in Have a Go News

Enjoy reading my story that is about a hotel making its mark by supporting the community it lives in.

This story also discovers quiet temples and peaceful green spaces in a busy city that never seems to sleep.

6PR Beaches & Bays

Continuing on from last weekends exploration of WAs best natural features, Burgo and I thought we’d go for a swim and discover our best beaches and bays. Enjoy the audio below which will take you from Esperance to Broome and beaches that are beautiful, quirky and a bit nostalgic.

6PR: WA Natural Attractions

Burgo and I discovered beaches, caves, rocks, beaches, ancient life forms, valleys of giants and a lot more as we explored the natural attractions of Western Australia.

Enjoy our discussion in the audio below and a few examples in pics.

6PR with Burgo: A list of what we don’t like about travel … without being grumpy

No matter how much you enjoy travelling, there are bound to be things you don’t enjoy. From people standing in the aisle of the plane when it stops to putting croissants on conveyor toasters, our discussion won’t solve the problems of the world but it might make you feel better just knowing these things annoy others.

Enjoy the audio below and please, it’s a short flight, there’s no need to recline the seat.

A croissant that’s travelled through a conveyor toaster
Kids who touch everything at the buffet is at the top my list!

6PR with Burgo: Why we stay where we stay

Enjoy the discussion in the audio below. I use some of my favourite places where I’ve stayed to work out why we stay where we stay. It might be because you want a warm B&B feeling, like Alda who runs L’arco Antico in Polignano Mare. It might be because you want a luxury resort experience like the amazing Apurva Kempinski in Bali or a full on funky vibe in a daring district like Chow Kit Hotel in KL.

If you enjoyed the discussion here’s a few pics of my favourite places for welcoming warmth, luxury and fun.

Old Harbour Hotel in Fort Kochi, India, used to be the headquarters of the Dutch East India Company (the VOCC).
For the sand in your toes and sleeping on the beach try Sipadan Mabul Resort off the east coast of Borneo.
Palace of the Lost City in Sun City, South Africa is surrounded by theme parks, safari parks, golf courses and is jaw droppingly luxurious.
Dryandra Woodlands Village is best in winter so you can rug up by the fire and enjoy frying up brekky on the bbq.
